In two separate raids at Chandpur Harina Ghat Naval Police Outpost, 6 fishermen including 1 crore 2 lakh meters of illegal current nets, 1 fishing boat have been seized.
Two separate raids were conducted on the Meghna River at Laxmipur Model Union No. 10 and Harina Ferry Ghat area of Chandpur Sadar Upazila from 2 pm to 7 pm on Monday 26 April. During the killing of Jatka in Meghna river, 6 fishermen including 1 crore 2 lakh meters of illegal current net, 1 fishing boat were seized from the fishermen.
The estimated value of the seized current net is estimated at Tk. 8 crore 40 lakh.
The arrested fishermen are Md. Hassan Khan (30), son of Quddus Khar of 10 no. Laxmipur Model Union area of Chandpur Sadar Upazila, Tanzil Gazi (20), son of Rahman Ghazi, Habib Gazi (21), son of Mohammad Billal Miah, Sabuj Munshi, son of Muktar Munshi(21), Harun Bakaul’s son Sharif Bakaul (22), and the late Wahab Khar’s son Anaer Khan (38).
It is learned that under the direction of Superintendent of Naval Police, Kamruzzaman, SI Golam Mohammad Nasim Hossain in-charge of Harinaghat Naval Police Outpost led the operation along with SI Redwan Ahmed, ASI Akkas Ali, Naik Sohail Rana and allied forces.
Later, with the permission of the fisheries officer, the seized current nets were destroyed.
SI Golam Mohammad Nasim Hossain, in-charge of Harinaghat Naval Police Outpost, said, “Under the leadership of Superintendent of Naval Police Kamruzzaman, we conduct two separate operations on the Meghna River at various places in Harina Ferry Ghat area and 10 no. Laxmipur Model Union. During this time we were able to arrest 6 fishermen including 1 crore 2 lakh meters of illegal current nets and 1 fishing boat.”
He said a case filed against the arrested accused at Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station.
