27 feared dead as fire breaks out in Japan

A fire broke out in a multi-storey building in the Japanese port city and commercial center of Osaka. At least 27 people are feared dead in the blaze.

The British Broadcasting Corporation news confirmed this on Friday.

Japan’s state-owned television the NHK told that police were investigating whether anyone had set the fire intentionally.

Authorities did not confirm any casualties in the blaze, but local media reported that at least 27 people with cardiopulmonary arrest had been evacuated. The term ‘cardiopulmonary arrest’ is often used in preliminary reports before confirming death information.

According to the BBC, firefighters were able to put out the blaze on the fourth floor of the multi-storey building.

As seen in the video footage, the windows on the fourth floor caught fire and turned black with smoke.

Local fire service authorities said We heard a fire break out in one of the buildings on Friday morning. Half an hour later, rescuers were able to put out the fire. The fire burned about 20 square meters (215 square feet) of the building, the fire service said.

The building is located in a busy commercial and leisure area in Osaka.
