The ACC wants to suspend the bail of ‘bdnews24.com’ editor.The ACC has asked the High Court to stay the eight-week anticipatory bail granted to ‘bdnews24.com’ editor-in-chief Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi in the Anti-Corruption Commission case.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said this on Tuesday (September 08). He said an appeal has been filed in the Appellate Division’s chamber court seeking stay of the High Court’s bail order. The petition may be heard in Justice Md. Nuruzzaman’s chamber court.
Lawyer Abdur Matin Khasru and lawyer Mahbub Shafiq were in favor of the application in the High Court. Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan was present at the hearing on behalf of the ACC.
On August 26, Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi, editor-in-chief of ‘bdnews24.com’, was granted anticipatory bail by the High Court in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Justice M Enayetur Rahim and the High Court bench of Mostafizur Rahman granted him eight weeks bail in advance.
Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi appeared in the High Court on the same day and applied for bail in the case filed by the ACC. A case was filed against him at the ACC’s integrated district office-1 on July 30 on charges of acquiring wealth through dishonest means.
According to the case statement, Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi has deposited Tk. 42 crore in various forms of HSBC, Eastern Bank Limited, South East Bank Limited and Mutual Trust Bank Limited, which has no valid source.
