Puranbazar police outpost arrested two persons named Shafiqul Bepari (20) and Sagar Mia (34) along with 1.5 tonnes of jatka in Puranbazar of Chandpur town.
On Friday, March 19, at 4:30 am, on the basis of secret information, 11 drums of Jatka (approximately one and a half thousand kg) in a pickup van were seized in a raid in the shop area of Puranbazar.
Two people including the driver of the vehicle were arrested at that time.
It is learned that the police, led by Inspector Mohammad Jahangir Alam, in-charge of Puranbazar police outpost, started ambushing the shop area from 3 pm on the basis of secret information.
Later at 4.30 am, the police caught them while they were smuggling the fish in a pickup van in the shop area.
At that time 2 people including 11 drums of Jatka were seized.
Later, at 11 am, the fish was distributed to various orphanage and madrasa in the city on the instruction of higher authorities.
In this regard, Chandpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdur Rashid said that the police force is conducting regular operations.
Two people, including a ton and a half of Jatka, were seized in a raid at Puranbazar police outpost on Friday, March 19 in the morning.
Chandpur Model Police Station OC Mohammad Abdur Rashid, Puranbazar Police Outpost Inspector in-charge Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Fisheries Department Field Assistant Mohammad Riazur Rahman were present.
Preparations are underway to file regular cases under the Fisheries Act against the detainees.
