BCB’s tour of Sri Lanka is now in face of deep uncertainty

Bangladesh cricket team’s tour of Sri Lanka is now in the face of deep uncertainty. Sri Lanka has blocked the tour due to conditions. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not agreed to tour Sri Lanka at all. That’s why BCB chief Nazmul Hasan Papon can’t say whether the Tigers’ tour will take place now.

A large contingent of 65 people, including the national team, high-performance team and coaching staff, is expected to visit Sri Lanka. It was said that Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim will be able to start training three days after passing the Corona test. But Sri Lanka has met the conditions – everyone has to stay in quarantine for 14 days. And the team cannot have more than 30 members.

Bangladesh is not at all willing to go on tour under these conditions. The BCB has made this clear to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Board chief Nazmul Hasan confirmed the news.

The head of the board further said that even if Sri Lanka does not tour, the country’s domestic cricket will return soon. However, he did not make it clear how and with which tournament cricket will return to the country.

The BCB’s steadfast stance has reached the ears of Sri Lankan Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa. He therefore advised the SLC to reconsider the issue of Bangladesh in consultation with the country’s Covid Task Force.

The Tigers are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka later this month. After a month of preparation there, the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Test series is scheduled to start from the end of October.
