Corona vaccine may arrive by the end of the year: WHO. The World Health Organization (WHO) says a vaccine capable of preventing coronavirus could arrive by the end of this year.
On Tuesday (October 06), the agency’s director general, Tedros Adhanom, announced the possibility. But he called on leaders to strengthen solidarity and political commitment to ensure equal vaccine distribution.
“We need a vaccine to prevent coronavirus and hopefully we will get one by the end of this year,” said the agency’s director general.
“We need political commitment from world leaders for the materials we need to prevent coronavirus, including vaccines, especially for the distribution of vaccines,” he said.
The CoVAX Global Vaccine Facility has been formed under the leadership of WHO with a target of distributing 200 crore doses of vaccine by 2021. This facility includes nine experimental coronavirus vaccines. So far 168 countries have joined the facility. However, the United States, Russia or China are not among them. The Trump administration says they wants to rely on bilateral agreements with manufacturers to ensure vaccine availability.
