Mehedi Hasan Rubel, 28, a former BCL leader, was killed while crossing a railway in Chandpur. His classmate Mohammad Rajan Khan was seriously injured.
The accident took place at Munshibari Rail Crossing in Chandpur around 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 29.
The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan Rubel, son of Bachchu Sheikh of Enayet Nagar village under Sheikh Hat Bazar in Ward no. 13 of Chandpur Municipality and former general secretary of Chhatra League in Ward mo. 13. Injured Md. Rajan Khan is the son of Rustam Khan of Wapda Gate area in Chandpur suburb.
Witnesses said Mehedi Hasan Rubel and his classmate Rajan Khan were on their way to Sheikh Hat Bazar on a motorcycle around 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 29.
At that time, while crossing the Munshibari rail crossing, they fell in front of the Sagarika Express train leaving from Chattogram. They were hit by a moving train at the time of crossing the railway. Mehdi Hasan Rubel was hit in the head and his skull was separated and he was bleeding profusely.
Witnesses later rescued them and took them to Chandpur Government General Hospital for treatment. On-duty doctors Mohammad Farhadul Karim pronounced Mehedi Hasan Rubel as dead.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the news of the accident, his relatives, various BCL leaders and classmates of the deceased gathered at the Chandpur Government General Hospital.
Witnesses and relatives complained that the accident took place as there was no railway crossing.
Dr. Md. Farhadul Karim, Medical Officer of Chandpur Government General Hospital, said that there was a lot of bleeding in his brain due to the severe injuries sustained in the accident.
He died of asphyxiation and heart failure. Besides, his classmate Rajan was seriously injured in different parts of the body. We admitted him to the hospital for treatment.
