Woman died in a house fire at Faridganj

An old woman named Beli Begum (70) died in a fire at her residence in Faridganj, Chandpur. At that time the house was burnt to ashes. The incident took place at Hamid Ali Haji’s house in the West Santoshpur area of ​​Chardukhiya East Union of the Upazila on Thursday night.

Jannat Akhter, a relative, said that when people saw the fire at night and shouted, they were able to bring it under control, but the old lady inside the house could not be saved. The gas cylinder in the house may the reason behind the fire. Beli Begum used to sleep with a lock inside the room. Due to this, it was not possible to rescue her alive.

Beli Begum’s younger sister Moni Begum said, “My sister was suffering from cancer. She used to work in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. Her husband Sajjad Hossain died in 2008. She lived in her father’s house for about two and a half years.”

Upon receiving the news, Faridganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahid Hossain, a five-member unit of fire service from Algibazar of Haimchar Upazila came to the spot and brought the fire under control.

Ohidul Islam, station officer of Algi Fire Service, said, “After hearing about the incident, 5 fire service personnel including me came to the spot and brought the fire under control. However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.”

Faridganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahid Hossain said, “I visited the spot after hearing the news. The body of the old woman who was burnt in the fire has been recovered.”
