Government will buy 55 thousand tonnes of edible oils and sugar to control prices during Ramadan.In the coming Ramadan, the government will buy 30,000 tonnes of edible oil and 25,000 tonnes of sugar to keep prices of essential commodities under control. The Cabinet Committee on Purchase has approved the proposal to purchase these products through the government marketing agency TCB.
The approval was given at a meeting of the Cabinet on Public Purchase at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
After the meeting, the finance minister said, ‘The government’s decision to take whatever necessary items we have during Ramadan – in any way, there should be no shortage of them’.
The finance minister said the month of Ramadan is ahead. We hope that by the mercy of God, the catastrophe now enduring all over the world will end. We are expecting Eid to end the month of Ramadan in a normal and beautiful way.
Nassima Begum, additional secretary of the cabinet division, said that the lowest bidder would be to buy sugar at Tk. 61.25 per kg from City Sugar Industries. This price will apply as you reach the warehouse.
Regarding edible oil, he said 2 liters and 5 liters will be bought in the bottle. The cost of 2 liters per liter will be Tk. 91.95 and the price of 1 liter bottle will be Tk. 90.95.
Besides, soybean oil will be purchased from Bashundhara Group and Super Well Refinery Limited.
