Govt declares Eid-ul-Azha holidays from May 25 to 31
The government has announced a seven-day nationwide holiday from May 25 to May 31 for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, according to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.
The holiday will apply to all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices across the country. To compensate for the extended break, offices will remain open on May 23 and 24, which fall on Saturday and Sunday.
The notification said essential services will remain operational during the Eid holidays including electricity, water, gas and fuel supply services, fire service operations, port activities, sanitation services, telephone and internet services and postal operations. Employees and vehicles involved in these services will remain outside the scope of the holiday.
Hospitals and emergency healthcare services will also continue functioning during the break. Doctors, healthcare workers and vehicles carrying medicines and medical equipment will be exempt from the holiday arrangement.
Political Analysis ReportsThe government also said offices engaged in emergency work will remain open as required.
According to the notification, Bangladesh Bank will issue separate instructions regarding banking operations during the holiday period, while the Supreme Court of Bangladesh will provide directives concerning court activities.
The notification further stated that the Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue necessary guidelines regarding public holidays for private industrial establishments and factories in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006.
