Floods In Chandpur Cause Heavy Damage To Crops

Floods in Chandpur cause heavy damage to crops.Haimchar and Matlab North in Chandpur district and areas along the Meghna river have suffered extensive damage.

On Tuesday, September 01, Naresh Chandra Das, an agronomist on duty at the Chandpur Agricultural Extension Department, informed about the loss of crops.

According to the information received, Aush has lost 27 hectares, Bona Aman has lost 10,500 hectares, Ropa Aman has lost 31 hectares, Betel leaf has lost 237 hectares, various vegetables have lost 410 hectares and seedbeds have lost 30 hectares. 10 hectares in Chandpur Sadar and 9 hectares in Matlab North. The concerned department has been informed through writing about the loss of crops and other vegetables in Chandpur.

Meanwhile, the state-owned banks in 8 upazilas of Chandpur have set a target of disbursing Tk. 227.61 crore in agricultural loans and poverty alleviation in the 2020-21 fiscal year.

According to the information received, Tk. 13 crore and 4 lakh through 20 branches of Sonali Bank in 8 upazilas and district headquarters of Chandpur, Tk. 17 crore and 16 lakh through 21 branches in Agrani Bank, Tk. 9 crore and 60 lakh through 15 branches in Janata Bank, 26 in Krishi Bank in Bangladesh. The target is to disburse 187 crore and 81 lakh taka through the branch in the current fiscal year 2020-21. Till June 2019-20, the number of farmer accounts of 10 taka in all those banks of Chandpur district is 2 lakh and 12 thousand 400. It is known that the bank will make such transactions through this calculation of the farmers.

According to the Chandpur Agriculture Department, seeds of improved varieties will be distributed among 1,500 farmers in the district. The seeds will be given through the Upazila Rehabilitation Committee.
