Hilsa catching has been banned since October 14.The government has decided to stop catching these 22 days from October 14 to November 4 as the main breeding season to protect hilsa.
The decision was taken at a meeting at the Fisheries Department on Thursday (September 17). This information has been given in a press release of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
The press release said, “The government has decided to ban all types of fishing, including hilsa, during the main breeding season of hilsa this year. During this time, the procurement, marketing, transportation, buying and selling, exchange and storage of hilsa will also be banned across the country.”
