A report has been received from the Monitoring Cell of Chandpur District Fisheries Department on March 18 at around 4 pm and the operation is being conducted under the Jatka program.
3 kg jatka, 1 lakh 52 thousand meters of current net has been seized. Its current value is 30 lakh taka. The jatka have been distributed to local orphanages. In addition, 4,000 fines have been collected. 1 case has been filed
On Thursday morning, 14 fishermen were arrested for catching jatka in Haimchar
In Chandpur’s Haimchar Upazila, 14 fishermen have been arrested in an operation by the Upazila Task Force to protect Jatka in the Meghna River Sanctuary. At that time, 500 kg of jatka and 1 lakh meters of banned current net were seized.
Haimchar Upazila Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Reagan Chakma on Thursday, March 18 in the morning sentenced five of the arrested fishermen to one year rigorous imprisonment and fined nine fishermen Tk. 45,000 each.
Earlier, on Wednesday, March 17, the fishermen were arrested in a raid in Katakhali, Haimchar, Charbhairabi and Char areas of the Meghna River from 7 pm to 2pm.
