Kanudi Bazar Bridge and the condition of the road: the suffering of the people is extreme.The misery of the people is now at its peak in the condition of 1 km road from the junction of Janu Hazra’s house in Kannupar Bazar of Bishnupur Union north of Chandpur Sadar.
Before the on-going monsoon season, the one-kilometer stretch of the road has been paved with bricks and numerous pothole have been created. As a result, various types of vehicles including rickshaws, autorickshaws and CNG are suffering.
These vehicles are constantly moving. Students of Kanudi Government Primary School cum Flood Center have been coming and going to school through this road for two-three years.
There are 18 launches plying from Chandpur to Narayanganj every day and hundreds of passengers travel to Narayanganj and Chandpur by this road at Kanudi launch dock, so the passengers travel in misery.
Also, a few days ago, the soil in front of Kanudi Government Primary School and on the east side of the bridge leading to the market was washed away by the rain water and one side of the bridge collapsed and the soil collapsed.
Also the lining of the railing of the bridge is rubbing. Every morning and afternoon the villagers have to go to Kanudi Bazaar and Launch Ghat through various risks. Local villagers are facing serious risks as one side of the bridge collapses for morning-afternoon shopping.
Local UP member Md. Khorshed Barkandaj said, “I have repeatedly raised the issue in the Union Parishad and Upazila Parishad.”
Local A-League leader Dr. Nazrul Islam said the removal of soil on the east side of the bridge could pose a major threat at any time. The school is also under threat.
Despite repeated assurances from people’s representatives, it has not been resolved so far, he said, adding that many locals said the bridge was built five years ago at a cost of k. 80 lacs. But now it is collapsing and the soil on both sides is shifting, causing misery to the people. Not walking on the road in general.
If the one kilometer road from the bridge in Kanudi Bazar to Junu Hazra’s house is not repaired, the local people will have to bear the suffering. They are hopeful that the upazila administration will take necessary steps regarding the road and the bridge.
