Liberation Day of Chandpur

Today is December 8,Chandpur Liberation Day.Chandpur district was freed from the
Pakistani army on this day.

After the liberation of Laksham and Mudaffarganj,the last battle took place on December 7, in the then Chandpur sub-division district.

The Allied forces and freedom fighters came to Chandpur on December 6 through Hajiganj on the road.The freedom fighters of the Mountain Brigade and the Eastern Sector of India launched a joint attack.

Knowing defeat in the war,Major General Rahim Khan,commanding officer of Pakistan’s Provisional Division,fled from Chandpur with the Pakistani army.Chandpur was freed on December 8, after intense fighting in Hajiganj for four hours and in a large station area.

Rabiul Awal Kirim,head of the BLF force,raised the flag of Independent Bangladesh at Chandpur in front of Chandpur police station.

Jeebon Kanai Chakraborty,the organizer of the War of Liberation,said that the occupation forces launched the first attack on 7 April,at Chandpur by sailing from two planes.On April 8, a fleet of Pakistani army arrived at Chandpur. Three kilometers away from the city, Chandpur Technical High School built a temporary camp at the grounds. On that night, freedom fighters of sector 2 stationed at Chandpur were attacked separately by the Pakistani army camp. Seeing the attack, the Pakistani army started firing at random. Some freedom fighters were seriously injured in the attack. On 9 April, Pakistani army entered the city at dawn and started killing of a man named Ismail Khan Volunteer (55) in Chandpur bus stand area.

Freedom fighter engineer Delwar Ahmed said that the invading forces used to kill freedom fighters and civilians in the Meghna river in the area of ​​Chandpur major station. During this time, the Pakistani armed forces killed some 20,000 people in the vicinity including Chandpur and dumped them in the Meghna river at the big station area.

A memorial monument has been erected in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office along with a list of the names of the freedom fighters of the district. Hajiganj Nasir Court also has a memorial with the grave of three martyrs.

A blood stream was created in the area of ​​Chandpur with the initiative of Chandpur Municipality and District Administration in the area of ​​Molhead. Memorial pledges are made.

In addition to the victory of the month-long liberation war in Chandpur,
Liberation Day has been celebrated every 12 years.
