Today is martyred intellectuals day

Today is December 14, the day of martyred intellectuals. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani army and their local allies killed the best child intellectuals of Bangladesh. Numerous academics, researchers, doctors, engineers, journalists, poets and writers of the country were killed and disappeared at their hands.

Just two days before the victory, the Pakistani regime deliberately killed them. Knowing that defeat was imminent, intellectuals were killed to make the people of this country incompetent. After the surrender of the Pakistani army on 16 December, the bodies of these intellectuals were found in the Mirpur and Rayerbazar massacres. In addition, the bodies of many intellectuals are missing.

There were marks of injury and torture all over the bodies of these rescued intellectuals. They were chosen to kill with bullets, slaughter, bayonet and other cruelties. As a result, their relatives could not even identify the bodies of many.

One of the intellectuals killed on this day in 1971 was ANM Munir Chowdhury, one of the teachers of Dhaka University. Jyotirmoy Guhathakurata, Abdul Muktadir, Dr. GC Dev, Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury, Anwar Pasha, SM Rashidul Hasan, Dr. Shahadat Ali, Dr. MA Khair, AR Khan Khadim, Dr. NM Faizul Mahi, Fazlur Rahman Khan, ANM Muniruzzaman, Dr. Sirajul Haque Khan, Md. Sadeq, Sharafat Ali, Ghiyasuddin Ahmed, Anudvaipayan Bhattacharya and Rajshahi University Professor Mir Abdul Qayyum, Habibur Rahman, Sukhranjan Samaddar, Dr. Abul Kalam Azad.

Among the journalists were Sirajuddin Hossain, Shahidullah Kaiser, Khandaker Abu Taleb, Nizamuddin Ahmed, ANM Golam Mostafa, Shahid Saber, Sheikh Abdul Mannan , Syed Nazmul Haque, M Akhter, Abul Basar, Chishti Helalur Rahman, Shibsadan Chakraborty, Parveen. Besides, artist Altaf Mahmud, writer Purnendu Dastidar, Meherunnesa, Ranbir Prasad Saha and many others were killed by the Pakistani army.
