Preparation for Matlab-Shahrashti municipal election almost done

Preparations for the Matlab-Shahrashti municipality election are almost done.In the fifth phase, polling of Matlab and Shahrashti municipalities of Chandpur will be held on February 28. Voting is being done through EVM in these two municipalities. The district election office said that almost all the preparations have already been completed.

There will be no general holiday on polling day. Voting will continue uninterrupted from 8 am to 4 pm. The last day for submission of nomination papers in these municipalities was February 2, selection was February 4, withdrawal of nomination was February 11 and allotment of symbols was February 12. According to the Election Commission, voting will be done through EVM in all the municipalities of this phase.

Matlab municipality:

The number of voters in Matlab municipality is 48,361. Of these, 24,109 are male voters and 24,261 are female voters. There are 22 centers and 132 rooms. District Election Officer Mohammad Tofail Ahmed is the Returning Officer and Upazila Election Officer Abu Zaher Bhuiyan is the Assistant Returning Officer.

The one-day training of 22 presiding officers, 44 assistant presiding officers and 264 polling officers from 22 centers ended at 9 am on February 23-24. A core committee meeting is also being held. 3 mayoral candidates, 8 reserved women candidates and 54 councilor candidates are contesting.

Shahrashti Municipality:

The number of voters in Shahrashti municipality is 30,884. Of these, 15,230 are male voters and 15,634 are female voters. There are 13 centers and 88 rooms. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akhter is the Returning Officer and Upazila Election Officer Abul Qasim is the Assistant Returning Officer.

The one-day training of 13 presiding officers, 26 assistant presiding officers and 176 polling officers from 13 centers has started at 9 am on February 24-25.

In Shahrashti municipality, 2 candidates for the post of mayor, 11 candidates for the reserved ward and 49 candidates for the post of councilor have entered the fray.

On 26 February, under the overall management of the District Election Commission, how the voters will cast their votes in EVM system in all the centers will be shown or shown in practice.

According to the secretary, there are 329 municipalities in the country. EVM voting took place on December 28 in 24 municipalities of the first phase schedule. In the second phase, voting took place on January 16 in 60 municipalities.

In the third phase, polling was held on January 30 in 64 municipalities and in the fourth phase, polling was held on February 14 in 56 municipalities. This is the fifth step.
