The inauguration of Mother Hilsa protection activity and Naval Rally has been held at the initiative of the Chandpur District Task Force.
Chandpur Deputy Commissioner Anjana Khan Majlish inaugurated the sanctuary at Molhead, the estuary of three rivers in Chandpur town on Monday morning.
The government has banned all types of fishing, including hilsa, for 22 days from October 4 to October 25 in the 60-kilometer area of the Padma-Meghna river in Chandpur to protect mother Hilsa under the hilsa sanctuary program.
Speaking as the chief guest, the deputy commissioner said, “Protecting a mother Hilsa means protecting 12 to 13 lakh Hilsa fish. So if we are a little conscious at the moment and do not kill mother Hilsa then we will get the benefits in the future.”
