Nearly 12 lakh illegal net seized in Chandpur

Nearly 12 lakh illegal current nets were seized in Chandpur. To safeguard the main breeding season of hilsa, the task force committee has launched an operation in the Meghna river of Sadar upazila of Chandpur to protect mother hilsa during a 22-day ban on river and sea fishing for 22 days from October 4 to October 25.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanjida Shahnaz conducted the operation.

The operation was carried out on the Meghna River from 6 am to 10 am on Friday under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanjida Shahnaz.Fisheries Office, Navy, Coast Guard assisted in this operation.

During the operation, 11 lakh 90 thousand meters of banned current nets and 30 kg of mother hilsa were seized. The seized nets were burned.

While conducting the operation, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanjida Shahnaz told, “The government has banned all kinds of fishing to make the breeding of hilsa safer.We are conducting the operation following the instructions of the government. If anyone disobeys the government ban, action will be taken according to the law. This campaign will continue.”

Chandpur Sadar AC land Muhammad Helal Chowdhury, Coast Guard Station Commander Sub Lt. Rohan Manjar, Lt. Zahid of Chandpur Navy, Sudip Bhattacharya, Senior Fisheries Officer of Chandpur Sadar Upazila were also present at the time.
