Oil tanker-autorickshaw collision in Chandpur

Three people have been killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered autorickshaw and an oil-laden lorry at Faridganj in Chandpur. The accident took place in front of Faridganj Upazila Health Complex on the Chandpur-Laxmipur Regional Highway on Tuesday (December 1) morning. The driver of the CNG-powered autorickshaw and two other passengers were among the three killed.

Among the dead passengers was Nilufa Begum (38) from Char Barali village in Faridganj and another passenger Md. Mamun and driver Jahangir’s house is in Raipur, Laxmipur. The bodies of the three were recovered and sent to Chandpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Faridganj Police Station OC Mohammad Shahid Hossain said the accident took place when the oil lorry was on its way to Chandpur from Raipur in Laxmipur and the CNG-powered autorickshaw reached the spot from the opposite direction. At that time both the vehicles fell into the canal on the side of the road. Immediately after the incident, the lorry driver and his assistant hurriedly shouted. Two died on the spot and another died at Chandpur General Hospital. They are all drivers and passengers of CNG-powered autorickshaws. However, the police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, the lorry driver fled after the accident. Police have recovered two vehicles involved in the accident.
