Rahat Khan Will Be Buried At Mirpur Intellectual Cemetery

Prominent Ekushey Padak winning novelist and journalist Rahat Khan will be buried at Mirpur Intellectual Cemetery. He will be buried there on Saturday.

Rahat Khan’s wife Aparna Khan has confirmed the matter. She said, ‘According to his (Rahat Khan’s) last wish, he will be buried in Mirpur Intellectual Cemetery on Saturday (today). The body was kept in the cold storage of Bardem Hospital at night.

Rahat Khan breathed his last at his home in the capital around 8:30 pm on Friday. He was 80 years old.Many dignitaries including President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep grief on his death.

On July 20, Rahat Khan was admitted to Bardem Hospital in the capital in a critical condition. The day before, he got down from the bed at home and got back pain. After that, X-ray was done on the advice of the doctor and a deep wound was found in the rib. He was admitted to the ICU of Bardem Hospital on an emergency basis due to shortness of breath. For a long time he was suffering from various diseases due to old age including heart disease, kidney and diabetes. He was staying at home as his medical procedure was complicated and he could not undergo surgery.

Rahat Khan’s wife Aparna had earlier said that doctors had informed them on July 29 that there would be no benefit from the hospital. No surgery can be done due to diabetes, kidney, heart problems. For this he was brought home. From then on, Rahat Khan had to stay in bed all the time.

Rahat Khan is a famous storyteller of Bangladesh. His contributions to both short stories and novels are significant. Rahat Khan’s contribution as a journalist is also significant.
