Social Media Is Not A Mass Media

Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmood said, ‘Social media is not a mass media. The media is no longer limited to newspapers only. Electronic media, online media, print-media are all about the media now. Recently many people in our country think social media is making mistakes’.

Social media, in fact, is not a mass media. It is often seen that social media posts serve as news media online, which is by no means critical. He said this while addressing the inaugural function of Press Council Day-2020 at the National Press Council Auditorium on Friday morning.

The role of the media is most important in the development of a healthy society. Hasan Mahmud said that media workers should be targeted to ensure that freedom of expression and freedom of expression should not be unduly interfered with in establishing a just and controversial society.

The information minister said, “Our aim is to develop the country through multidimensional social order.” Without the free flow of information and the freedom of the media, that is not possible. Our aim is to develop an advanced state, which promotes the ideal of liberty, as well as material development, physical development as well as intellect and mind.

Awami League Joint-General Secretary said that in the last 10 years, the prevalence, responsibility and diversity of the work of the Press Council has increased manifold as the image of the press has changed radically.

The minister said that 11 years ago, where there was 10 television channel, it has now increased to 36, the number of daily newspapers has increased from 450 to about 1250 now. As a result, many times false, false news is served in the competition of news service, which interferes with the freedom of the people, and sometimes the loss of society.

He also said, “Misrepresenting false and untruthful news in the media is a threat to the people and society, which creates chaos. So I think the responsibility of the discipline of the news service is the responsibility of the press council the most. I hope the Press Council will implement the age-appropriate plan through the agenda, training of media personnel and workshops for collecting and delivering news”.

Presided over by Press Council Chairman Justice Mohammad Mamtazuddin Ahmed, former Prime Minister’s Information Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Information Secretary Kamrun Nahar and Bangladesh daily editor Naeem Nizam were present at the function.
