Two civilians have been killed in a bomb attack targeting the Taliban in Afghanistan. One of them is a child. The incident took place on Saturday, October 23 in the eastern city of Jalalabad.
District police chief Ismatullah Mubariz said two bombs planted on the side of the road exploded a Taliban vehicle was passing by. However, no Taliban casualties were reported.
A local hospital official said two bodies and four wounded civilians were transferred to the hospital after the attack.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, it is believed that the militant group IS is behind this.
IS attacks and violence in Afghanistan have escalated since the Taliban took control of Kabul last August.
Militants are regularly targeting the country’s new ruling group. Many innocent people are losing their lives in this.
A few days ago, IS attacked the mosque during two consecutive Friday prayers. It killed at least 100 people and injured hundreds of Afghans.
Also, last Thursday, October 21 at night, the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, was cut off by IS attacks. The whole city was plunged into darkness.
Afghanistan is largely dependent on its northern neighbors, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, for electricity. As a result, interstate power lines are considered one of the main targets for the rebels.
For the past 20 years, the Taliban have carried out regular attacks on such installations in the fight against the US-backed Afghan government. Now IS is trying to harm them with that strategy.
