Today is Shaheed Noor Hossain Day

November 10 is Shaheed Noor Hossain Day. It is an unforgettable day in the struggle for restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.

On this day in 1978, Noor Hossain was martyred in the anti-authoritarian movement. This self-sacrifice of Noor Hossain accelerated the movement of pro-democracy people against the then dictatorship.

On this day, Juba League activist Noor Hossain came down to the streets as a living poster with thousands of protesting youths. The burning slogan on his chest and back was ‘Let democracy be liberated, let dictatorship be destroyed’.

In the struggle for democracy, the then dictator did not tolerate the fiery slogans of that fearless young man.

The indiscriminate firing of the dictator made his chest tingle. Juba League leader Nurul Huda Babul and Aminul Huda Tito, a farm laborer from Bajitpur in Kishoreganj were also killed in the firing.

With the sacrifice of Noor Hossain, the anti-authoritarian movement gained momentum and the struggle of the three alliances became irresistible.

In the late nineties, the tide of dictatorship was swept away by the tide of this movement. The anti-authoritarian movement was intensified and the dictatorial government collapsed on 6 December 1990 as a continuation of the ongoing struggle.
