Today is Shakib’s ‘birthday’ in international cricket.If someone had been say in 2006 that the Bangladesh cricket team’s player would be one of the best in the world, then that person would have been considered crazy. But when Shakib Al Hasan came on the international stage that year, in just three years, Shakib, the best cricketer in the history of the country, has taken the name of Bangladesh to the best position in the world.
Bangladesh toured Zimbabwe in July 2006 to play a five-match ODI series. The hosts secured the title by winning three of the first four matches of the series. So in the last match, Bangladesh made the debut of two young cricketers in the squad. Those who have made themselves synonymous with Bangladesh cricket in the next 14 years.
One is Mushfiqur Rahim, the other one is Shakib Al Hasan. The international stage was not new for Mushfiqur as he played Tests the year before. But left-arm spinning all-rounder Shakib made his international debut on the same day, announcing his arrival.
The day was August 06, 2006, which means that exactly 14 years ago today, the world’s best all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was born on the international stage. Within three years he was at the top of the ODI all-rounder rankings, and two more years later he climbed to the top of the rankings in all three formats. Which no other cricketer in the world could do.
Without a doubt, Shakib is one of the best cricketers in the world.Proof of which he gave in the last ODI World Cup. Shakib scored the third highest 606 runs with the bat. He had a total of 11 wickets with 5 wickets in one match.
Not only the World Cup, Shakib has been proving his superiority for the last 14 years. In his debut match, he started with an unbeaten 30 off 49 balls with the bat and taken 1 wicket also. So far he has played 338 international matches successfully. He was not dropped once due to off form.
In Test cricket so far, Shakib has scored 3862 runs in 56 matches with 5 centuries and 24 half-centuries at a batting average of 39.40. He took five wickets 18 times in the innings and 10 wickets twice in the match. Shakib is the only bowler in the country to take 200 Test wickets, currently has 210 wickets.
He played 206 matches in ODI format and scored 6323 runs in 9 centuries and 47 fifties. Batting average 37.86, scored 82.75 strikrate. In ODI cricket, he has taken a total of 260 wickets with two five wicket haul in innings.He played 76 matches in T20 and scored 1567 runs and took 92 wickets.
