Typhoid vaccination of 8 lakh children in Chandpur: Achievement rate 99.39%

Typhoid vaccination has been given to 8 lakh 300 children and adolescents in 8 upazilas-2 municipalities of Chandpur district. Achievement rate 99.39%. To prevent typhoid fever across the country, the month-long typhoid vaccination campaign-2025 has started from October 12. It ends on November 13.

The district health department has taken a target of vaccinating 8 lakh 5 thousand 245 children and adolescents in the upazila and Hajiganj municipality. Out of this, 8 lakh 370 have been vaccinated, according to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, Chandpur.

According to the relevant sources, under the month-long vaccination program excluding government holidays, 1 lakh 648 people in Chandpur Sadar, 34 thousand 932 people in Haimchar, 1 lakh 31 thousand 22 people in Faridganj, 85 thousand 727 people in Hajiganj, 83 thousand 886 people in Shahrasti, 1 lakh 540 people in Kachua, 57 thousand 899 people in Matlab Dakshin, 85 thousand 899 people in Matlab Ur, 64 thousand 915 people in Chandpur Municipality and 31 thousand 717 students in Hajiganj have been vaccinated. Students aged 15 from pre-primary to ninth grade have been vaccinated in their respective schools.

In this regard, the Medical Officer in Charge of Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex, Dr. Ahmed Tanvir told the weekly Hajiganj that all the well-wishers, teachers and education officers, journalists, political figures, social workers and health department workers of Hajiganj, family planning field workers, scouts, girl guides, Red Crescent members, and political workers of their respective areas are fulfilling their responsibility to make the month-long typhoid vaccination campaign 2025 a success to prevent typhoid fever.

The Chandpur district health department has taken up a plan with the target of vaccinating children and adolescents up to 15 years in 8 upazilas and municipalities of Chandpur, the concerned branch of the Civil Surgeon’s Office said on September 29. There are 49,293 secondary schools, 260 madrasas, 1,156 government primary schools, 611 kindergartens and 450 private madrasas in 8 upazilas of 89 unions, 1,365 villages in the district.

Students from pre-primary to ninth grade will receive the vaccine in their respective schools. Children aged 9 months to 15 years who are out of educational institutions can go to the nearest EPI vaccination center and get vaccinated. There are 258,000 students in the primary level of the district. According to the sources given by the District Secondary Education Office, the number of students in grades 6 to 9 in all government and private secondary educational institutions in Chandpur district is 169,460. The program was successfully completed by the Upazila and Thana Secondary Education Officers across the country in collaboration with the officials of the Health Department.

There were government instructions that the Assistant Upazila and Thana Officers should supervise the program at the school level. District, Upazila and Thana officials conducted the observation on a random basis. Headmasters ensured the involvement of teachers and assistant teachers.

Teachers fulfilled their responsibilities in registration, ensuring vaccination, appointing Rover Scouts and motivating guardians and ensuring the accuracy of the information in the registration form, making this national vaccination campaign 100% successful.

Incidentally, the country’s health department has set a target of providing 50 million children with a free safe typhoid vaccine under the government’s National Immunization Program. The typhoid vaccination program is ongoing until November 13. Children aged 9 months to 15 years who are outside educational institutions can go to the nearest EPI vaccination center to get vaccinated. The program is being implemented by upazila-level health workers.

In this regard, the Department of Secondary and Higher Education has issued special instructions for the heads and concerned officers of all educational institutions in the country. In addition, officers at the Thana, Upazila and District levels have also been instructed to closely monitor the activities.
