67% of victims of violence in Corona are working women:Survey data conducted by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.During the Corona period, 67 percent of the country’s working women faced domestic violence, repeated insults to neighbors for help, and homeowners threatening to leave. Besides, working women are being tortured for giving financial support and jobs. This information has come up in a survey conducted by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.

A press conference was organized yesterday on the occasion of publishing the results of the survey titled ‘Covid-19: Socio-Economic Status of Working Women in Bangladesh’. It was said in the program that the data has been collected through the organizers of 26 district branches of Mahila Parishad for the survey. A total of 130 working women, five from each of the 26 districts, took part in the survey. Among the participants, 39 percent are women factory workers.

The study found that women who worked as factory workers, housemaids, day laborers, construction workers, hotel cooks or spice butters were now spending their time at home with the problems caused by the coronavirus. Most have no work, no pay. As the factories are closed during the general holidays, 18 percent women workers are not able to join the work. Although 16 percent of women get partial wages, 30 percent of women workers have their salaries stopped. Despite the limited number of factories, women workers are at risk of losing their jobs. In the meantime, 16 percent women have been fired. 20 percent have been temporarily cut. Those who used to work as housemaids are not being employed at home at present. 52 percent of women are in financial crisis due to pay cut or partial pay.

Acting President of the Women’s Council. The joint general secretary of the council Seema Moslem gave a welcome speech at the function presided over by Fauzia Moslem.
