TK. 248 crore loan allocated for agricultural production in Chandpur

Bangladesh Bank has allocated Tk. 248 crore 1 lakh 50 thousand to state-owned and private banks in 8 Upazilas of Chandpur for disbursement of loans in the agricultural production sector and poverty alleviation in the fiscal year 2021-22.

Sonali Bank Chandpur Regional Office sources said this information on September 1 at noon.

Every financial year, Bangladesh Bank allocates to the scheduled public and private banks of the country in the field of agriculture and poverty alleviation. The allocation is distributed to the concerned banks at a proportional rate and to meet the demand. There are also guidelines on how to provide loans in all sectors.

This was informed at a meeting of the Chandpur District Agriculture Loan Committee held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Room on August 29 at a coordination meeting of officials of the regional offices of all the banks.

According to the information received, allocations have been made to Sonali, Agrani, Janata, Bangladesh Krishi, Rupali, Basic, Karmasangsthan, BRDB, and 24 privately run banks in Chandpur. There is an instruction to distribute Tk. 248 crore 1 lakh in the agricultural production sector.

According to the regional office of the concerned bank, Tk. 12 crores 75 lakh has been allocated to Sonali Bank, Tk. 14 crores 81 lakh to Janata Bank, Tk. 204 crores 80 lakh to Krishi Bank, and Tk. 15 crores 65 lakh to Agrani Bank.

The branches of the concerned banks will be allocated for the cultivation of pulses, oilseeds, spices, and maize at 4% interest in FY 2021-22. In agriculture, farmers usually take loans at the rate of 8%.

A bank official concerned said, “The first condition for a farmer to get a loan is that he must have suitable land for cultivation. Sharecroppers will also get loans if they apply with the permission of the landowners. In reply to another question, he said that he will get a loan of up to TK. 50,000 for raising fisheries, cattle, and poultry.”

Banks are engaged in agricultural production, purchase of irrigation equipment, purchase of power tillers, cattle fattening, poultry farms, cattle rearing, fish farming, vegetable production, and rabi harvest. There are instructions to provide agricultural loans to the sharecroppers after proper evaluation.

In the 2021-22 financial year, the bank disburses loans to farmers who have land to cultivate and cultivate on their own, if the bank’s field assistants offer immediate loans.
