This time Boro production in Chandpur is 2 lakh 53 thousand MT. Chandpur is one of the best agricultural areas in the country. The climate of Chandpur is conducive to agricultural production. Meghna, Dakatia, Meghna-Dhanagoda and Padma rivers are washed away at Chandpur. Most of the people in Chandpur district are farmers.

20 unions of 4 upazilas of the district are affected by river erosion, river washing and river flooding. This year, 2,53,708 MT of rice has been produced. 71,265 hectares were planted.

Md. Jalal Uddin, Deputy Director, Department of Agricultural Extension, Khamar Bari, Chandpur, gave this information on June 6 at noon.

He said, “This time the target of cultivation and production has been achieved in Chandpur as well.” He said that this time in Chandpur, Boro has got a very good yield this season. The climate was favorable even during cultivation. Uninterrupted power supply also existed. The government has also given fertilizers, seeds and government incentives in time. The current price of paddy is also very good. Meanwhile, in Kachua, for the first time in 50 acres of land with full government incentives, he also spoke about the excellent yield.

There are two irrigation projects named Chandpur Irrigation Project and Meghna Dhanagoda. The four upazilas of Chandpur district namely Chandpur Sadar, Haimchar, Faridganj, Matlab North and South have about 23,390 hectares of land in these two.

In 8 upazilas of Chandpur, in the fiscal year 2020-21, in 71,200 lands, boro cultivation and production target was set at 252,642 MT of rice, said Chandpur Farm House Agriculture Extension.

Farmers of Chandpur cultivate hybrid, local and high yielding A3 varieties of Eri-boro. More or less all the upazilas are cultivated in Eri-Boro. Chandpur Irrigation and Meghna Dhanagoda Irrigation Project, Matlab South and Hajiganj are extensively cultivated in Eri-Boro.

According to the Chandpur Farm Bari Department of Agricultural Extension, this time the yield has been fixed at 51,708 hectares with improved yields alone and the production at 410 MT per hectare has been fixed at 212,228 MT. Hybrid cultivation has been fixed at 6,551 hectares and production at 495 MT per hectare has been fixed at 42,326 MT.

In order to increase production, the country’s agriculture department has allocated 600 MT of BR 28, 29 and 56 boro seeds in the current fiscal year 2020-21. Until October 25, farmers were instructed to purchase directly from the Chandpur Seed Marketing Center or from 123 dealers approved by the Department of Agriculture at the price fixed by the government. The price per 10 kg bag has been increased to Tk 550, the declared price to Tk 480 and perfume to Tk 580.

According to a source in the bank, 4 state-owned and private banks in 8 upazilas of Chandpur have been allotted Tk 303 crore 8 lakh 39 thousand in the fiscal year 2020-21 for distribution of loans in agriculture and other sectors. So far 206 crore 42 lakh 92 thousand taka has been distributed.

According to the information received, 22,231 MT in Chandpur Sadar, 37,670 MT in Matlab North, 20,258 MT in Matlab South, 40,282 MT in Hajiganj and 40,412 MT in Shahrasti. 49,511 MT in Kachua, 40,573 MT in Faridganj and 2,750 MT in Haimchar.

The food requirement of the district is 4 lakh 22 thousand 9 hundred 55 MT.
