Two policemen were injured in clashes between MP Shafiqur Rahman and Upazila chairman Adv. Zahidul Islam Roman groups in Faridganj.At least 25 people including SI Nazmul and some other Police member was injured at that time. Police have fired 3 rounds of tear cells to control the situation.
Thursday’s scheduled law and order development meeting was closed due to clashes between the two groups, which lasted for almost two hours. Frightened locals and traders of the market closed their shop. However, UNO Shiuli Hori claimed that she adjourned the law and order meeting because of the situation.
Eyewitnesses said Faridganj MP Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman went to the Upazila Executive Officer’s room at 11 am to attend today’s law and order committee meeting. At that time, the people who came to the party also came out to give ‘Slogans’ in the name of Khaje Ahmed Majumder,the former president of the Upazila Chhatra League.
At the same time, Upazila chairman Adv.Zahidul Islam Roman’s group came into the Upazila Parishad premises and chanted ‘Slogans’ in the name of Upazila Chairman Roman.
At one point a shoe was thrown on the leaders of the group of the upazila chairman. Shortly afterwards, a cocktail exploded near the scene.
Abu Sufian, the convener of the ‘Upazila Jubo’ League, who followed the MP, said it was normal for the party leaders to accompany the MP wherever he went. At that time, I and Khawaja Ahmed Majumder along with the MP were present at UNO’s office room. I could not understand the reason why there was a surprise attack on our party members.
Zila Parishad member ,Municipal Awami League organizational secretary and Upazila chairman fellow Saiful Islam Ripon said, “We have no dispute with the MP.
However, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s declaration is the drug addicts and drug traders, no matter who they are, have to be boycotted .
That’s why, we the party members and leaders demanded that to expel drug emperor khaja Ahmed.
Upazila chairman Adv. Zahidul Islam Roman, Upazila Executive Officer in the presence of administration officer, public representative and journalists also present in the office of Shuli Hori.
Zahidul Islam Roman said the MP. Shafiqur Rahman was present at the law and order meeting. In the presence of the MP. we came here to met.But the MP’s followers suddenly made noise in the upazila premises. Which was not desirable.
He further said that even after I expressed my regret to the MP for the unforeseen incident.He had taken up the situation by saying lies against me.
However, in the same place MP Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman said when I came to attend a law and order meeting, party leaders were coming to the executive officer’s office with the ‘Slogan’ in my name and Khwaja Ahmed Mujamdar.At that time, a group of uppish youths caused panic in several moment.
On hearing the news, a large number of policemen came to the scene and charged the stick first and then threw several tear cells and were able to control the situation.
Upon seeing the situation, upazila executive officer Shiuli Hori has been postponed today’s law and order meeting.
Additional police superintendent Mizanur Rahman from Chandpur and OC Abdur Rakib of Faridganj Police Station were present at the scene of the incident.
