First Canadadian Woman Finance Minister In History

First Canadadian woman finance minister in history. This is the first time in the history of Canada that a woman has been given the responsibility of handling the finance ministry. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has named Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland as his new finance minister. He is hopeful that Freeland, a 52-year-old former journalist, will succeed her as finance minister.

Prime Minister Trudeau has been at loggerheads with Finance Minister Bill Morneau for the past few days over a 41,000 bill. The Corona outbreak has plunged Canada’s economy into recession over the past few months. The two also became embroiled in controversy over government spending on security.

It was recently alleged that Morneau had not paid for the trip abroad to see the work of the charity Wei Charity. Morneau resigned as finance minister on Monday over differences with Prime Minister Trudeau. As a result, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was given the job amid speculation over who would take over as finance minister.

Freeland had previously served as the country’s foreign minister. She is currently the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. That is, she was responsible for coordinating with the governments of the provinces. From now on, she will be the Deputy Prime Minister in addition to the Finance Minister, but the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs has been handed over to Dominic LeBlanc.
