Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has laid the foundation stone of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge over the Jamuna river. She laid the foundation stone at 11:15 am on Sunday via video conference from Ganabhaban. After that the main construction work of the bridge will start from today.
At that time, the Prime Minister said, “It is very important for us to build another bridge separately, because you know, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu said, Bangladesh will be the Switzerland of the East. In other words, in order to build a bridge between East and West, we have to connect the trans-Asian railway bridge. Trans-Asian Highway and Trans-Asian Railway if we can connect these two bridges, then the importance of Bangladesh will increase. Trade will increase, employment will increase, human communication will increase. There will be opportunities for us.”
The Prime Minister further said that the internal benefits of the country are the biggest issue.There were famines in different parts of North Bengal. When there is communication, the human economy is activated.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was laying the foundation stone of a 4.8-kilometer double-line dual-gauge Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge from Ganabhaban (virtually) this morning, citing a Railway Ministry official.
