15 persons including Nurul Huda were summoned.The court has issued a summons to respond to the two defendants, including Chief Election Commissioner KMC Nurul Hooda, in separate cases of two mayoral candidates of BNP demanding dismissal of allegations of irregularities and corruption in two city corporation elections in Dhaka.
On Tuesday, March 03, Dhaka Election Tribunal Judge Utpal Bhattacharya issued the summons to respond to the protesters by taking on two separate cases of BNP mayoral candidates. The court fixed April 02 to answer the summons.
The stenographer of the court Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter.
BNP mayoral candidate Israq Hossain filed a case in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election on Tuesday, March 03, at the Election Tribunal Judge Utpal Bhattacharya’s court. The case was disputed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, returning officer. Abdul Baten and South City Corporation’s newly elected mayor barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, along with eight others.
Earlier on Monday, March 02, the BNP’s Mayor, Tabitha Awal, filed a case against the DNCC election alleging irregularities and corruption. The case was disputed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, returning officer. Abul Qasem and eight others including elected mayor Atiqul Islam.
In the Iraqi case, the dispute has been made by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, Returning Officer. Abdul Baten and South City Corporation’s newly elected mayor barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, along with eight others. In two cases, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has been disputed for 15 defendant.
Masud Ahmed Talukder, lawyer for the two mayoral candidates, said that people did not go to the polling station in the last election. The election was not done correctly. There has been widespread corruption and irregularities in the elections. We have sued for the new election rather than cancel it.
It is to be noted that the elections were held in two cities in Dhaka on February 01. Atiqul Islam and Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, two ruling Awami League candidates, won the mayor’s posts in the DNCC and DSCC.
