At least 8 dead as small plane crashes in Italy

A small passenger plane has crashed in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, killing at least eight people. All passengers were killed when the plane crashed into an empty office building on the outskirts of Milan on Sunday, local media reported.

Local media quoted LaPresse, firefighters as saying the pilot and five other passengers, and two crew were all dead. However, the identities of the dead were not immediately known.

Firefighters said in a tweet that no one but the plane’s occupant was killed in an accident Sunday afternoon near a subway station in San Donato Milanese, a small town near Milan.

They said several vehicles in a parking lot adjacent to the crash site caught fire. However, no one was in the vehicles at that time.

Sky TG24 says the plane was flying between Milan’s Lynette Airport and the Italian island of Sardinia. Firefighters put out the blaze.
