The Bangladeshis will be returned if the Chinese government agrees.Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said the government is fully prepared to bring back Bangladeshis trapped in China by the outbreak of coronavirus. They will be returned only if the Chinese government agrees. However, all Bangladeshis have said they do not want to return home now.
The minister said this after answering a question to journalists after a meeting with Sylhet ministers, parliamentarians and politicians on a plan to construct a Dhaka-Sylhet four-lane road at Padma, the state guest house, on Wednesday.
The foreign minister said, “We have also prepared airline flights to bring back Bangladeshis who are staying in China under the direction of the Prime Minister. We have informed the Chinese authorities about the return of their citizens to the country. However, they have said they will monitor everyone for at least two weeks. Then the foreigners can return to their own country.
He added that Bangladeshis have been listed who want to return home. Their registration has begun. However, many are not interested in returning. They said returning home would not be good in this situation. Because China is providing all kinds of medical care to those affected by the virus. It is difficult to say exactly what kind of services you will get in Bangladesh.
The minister said other countries, including Japan and the United States, have also shown interest in withdrawing their citizens. But the Chinese are not sending any foreigners back now. They are very strict in this regard.
The foreign minister said Bangladeshi nationals were brought back from China but they will be kept under surveillance. Because we don’t want the virus to spread all over the country.
Regarding the Dhaka-Sylhet four-lane road project, the minister said that work is expected to be completed by 2023. Dhaka-Sylhet Road will be constructed with the plan to avoid the problem of traffic on this route in the next 50 years.
Overseas Welfare Minister Imran Ahmed, State Minister for Civil Aviation Mahbub Ali, former Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Moulvi bazar-2 Sultan Mohammad. Mansur Ahmed was present on the occasion.
