Young Teachers:The future of the Profession

Actober 5 is World Teacher’Day. The theme of the year is Young Teachers:The future of the Profession.World Teachers’Day or International Teachers’Days is celebrated on Oct 5 with the aim to acknowledge the significant role of educators across the world.

It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of UNESCO’s 1966 recommendation concerning the status of teachers.The UNESCO adopted the recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel in 1997 to complement the 1966 recommendation by covering teaching and research personnel in higher education.

UNESCO’s recommendation sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.

According to UNESCO, World Teachers’ Day is recognized as an outstanding contribution of teachers to education and development. This day is celebrated in 167 countries of the world. Education International and its 401 member-organizations played a key role in celebrating the day. The organization represents over 3 crore 50 lac members of the world.

The world body adopted the Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education, which is aimed at recognizing teachers as key to the achievement of the Education 2030 agenda. Following this, the World Teachers’ Day has become the occasion to mark progress and reflect on ways to counter the remaining challenges for the promotion of the teaching profession.

World Teachers’ Day is co-convened along with UNICEF, UNDP, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.

Year’s theme is ‘Young Teachers:The future of the Profession’.The day provides the occasion to celebrate the profession of teaching, to acknowledge the achievements. It also aims to address some of the issues that are key to attracting the brightest minds and young talents in the profession and retaining them.

World Teachers’ Day celebrated in Chandpur

A discussion meeting was organized at the`Sahitya Akademi ‘ on Saturday, Oct 5 at 5 pm at the jointly venue of the`National Teachers’ Employees’ Struggle Committee‘ & Secondary Assistant Teachers’ Association in Chandpur. Central Education and Research Secretary Bakshis Principal Harun ur Rashid was the chief negotiator presided over the discussion .

Chandpur Bakshis General Secretary Principal Safayat Ahmed Bhuiyan was the Chief guest on occassion .
Bakshis Leader Principal Mezbah Uddin Bhuiyan and Secondary Assistant Teachers Association General Secretary Jahangir Hossain conducted on the occasion .

Social Welfare Secretary Bakshis Central Committee Prof. Mosharraf Hossain, Senior teachers leader Md. Shafiul Alam Shahjahan, Principal MA Malek, Principal Monirul Haque Patwari and Secondary Assistant Teachers Association President Bilal Hossain and Sadar President Kaniz Batul Chowdhury took –part on the discussion.
