Hajiganj’s Historic Bora Mosque stands proudly

The Hajiganj’s historic bora mosque in Chandpur stands proudly. The founder of this mosque and Ahmadiya Darul Uloom Kamil Madrasa, Waqf Estate, was Alhaj Ahmed Ali Patwari (may Allah be pleased with him). The short-lived, philanthropist and Mutawalli Alhaj Ahmed Ali Patwari (may Allah be pleased with him) was born in a respectable Muslim family in the village of Mokimabad in Hajiganj towards the end of the 12th century.

He became fatherless at a young age and laid the foundation of the historic big mosque in Hajiganj around the 13th century. He received blessings from the then head of Kolkata Alia Madrasa, Md. Shamsul Ulama Shafi Ullah, to build the mosque.

Then, on 17 Ashwin 1337, Maw. Abul Farah Jainpuri (may Allah be pleased with him) laid the foundation of the concrete mosque, which is today’s historic big mosque in Hajiganj. In 1931, he established the Ahmadiyya Darul Ulum Kamil Madrasa next to the mosque. Shamsul Ulama Maw. Abu Nasr Wahid, the principal of Muhasnia Madrasa in Aliya Nesab, Old Dhaka, was present at the event.

In order to produce qualified servants and musli for the mosque, he built a madrasa in Aliya Nesab in 1931, named Hajiganj Darul Ulum Senior Madrasa, on the south side of the mosque. Which was later upgraded to the Kamil level in 1941, Fazil in 1995 with the efforts of the founder’s grandson principal Dr. Alamgir Kabir Patwari and with his dedicated efforts the madrasa was re-established in its present physical form at its present location.

The governing body including his grandson principal Dr. Alamgir Kabir Patwari is working tirelessly to realize the dream of the founder Motwali Alhaj Ahmed Ali Patwari (RA). Arrangements have been made to teach boys and girls in separate branches in a completely religious environment. The science department is operational up to the Alim class. On 17 Baishakh 1375 B.E. at 9:45 am, this great servant of humanity, the founder of the historic big mosque and the waqf estate of Hajiganj and the proud son of the people of Hajiganj, Motwali Alhaj Ahmed Ali Patwari (RA) passed away.

Meanwhile, another legendary Motwali, the late Moniruzzaman Patwari, father- Ahmad Ali Patwari (R.A.) and mother Mosammat Faziltun Nesa, was born in 1925 in a respectable Muslim family of Mokimabad village in Hajiganj. He was an ideal religious figure, a social worker, a just and philanthropist, and a kind-hearted person. At that time, Moniruzzaman Patwari was a prominent businessman in Hajiganj Bazar. He served as the next Motwali of the Hajiganj Historical Bora Mosque Complex established by his father for a long time from 1964 to 1985.

The late Moniruzzaman Patwari was given a registered ‘appointment letter’ to serve as the Motwali. After taking charge as Motawalli, Moniruzzaman Patwari continued the work of the unfinished part of the dome, including the construction of a two-story building in the third part of the mosque, as per his father’s advice. About 4 years after taking charge, Ahmad Ali Patwari (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in 1968.
