12 lakh books allocation for primary students in Chandpur

The Primary Education Department of 8 upazilas of Chandpur has already sent a demand for 12 lakh 17 thousand 247 copies of books for the upcoming 2025 academic year to the Mass and Primary Education Department. This demand has been sent to provide free books to students from pre-primary to fifth grade.

This information was made known on Sunday by the Chandpur District Primary Education Office.

According to the information received, there are approximately 258 thousand students in 8 types of 1,156 primary schools in Chandpur district. Out of which, 1,156 are government primary schools. The number of kindergarten schools in Chandpur is 555 and the number of students is about 75 thousand. The number of primary students in the district is 258 thousand 34.

According to him, 2 lakh 42 thousand 700 copies of books for all classes have been sent to Chandpur Sadar, 1 lakh 51 thousand 482 copies for 135 primary schools in Hajiganj, 1 lakh 23 thousand 900 copies to Shahrasti, 1 lakh 67 thousand 442 copies to Matlab North, 1 lakh 69 thousand 272 copies to Matlab South, 1 lakh 85 thousand 523 copies to Faridganj, 51 thousand 120 copies to Haimchar and 1 lakh 76 thousand 940 copies to Kachua.

The senior high-ranking assistant of the Chandpur District Primary Education Office said, ‘All the required books for December will reach Chandpur and will be delivered to every primary school in the district through their respective Upazila Education Offices by December. Steps will be taken for annual examinations as per the departmental instructions.’ If the government order is received, it is known that the book distribution program for primary school students will be taken in Chandpur on January 1, 2025, like the rest of the country. ’

It is learnt that the proposal has been approved at the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement, which will spend Tk 210 million to print new books for primary level students in the 2026 academic year. Under this project, 4 crore 4 lakh 42 thousand 491 copies of textbooks will be printed, bound and supplied for first,second and third grade students. This information has been given according to the proposal of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
