Sheikh Hasina has been reelected as president of the Awami League for the ninth time .
Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru, a member of the Presidium, proposed the name of Sheikh Hasina as the president on the second day of the party’s conference on Saturday, December 21. Piyush Bhattacharya, another member of the Presidency, supported the proposal. Later it was passed by voice vote.
Earlier, the party president Sheikh Hasina announced the abolition of the committee at 12.55 pm. Shortly afterwards leadership was chosen.
Meanwhile, the ruling Awami League’s new committee announced that all speculations were finalized, with Sheikh Hasina as president and Obaidul Quader elected general secretary.
On the second day of the Awami League’s 21st National Conference, their names were unanimously announced at the end of the council session.
