UGC’s ‘Bangabandhu Fellowship’ to be launched in Mujib Year.’Bangabandhu Fellowship’ is being launched on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary. Through this, various types of degrees including research project preparation, doctoral degree, post doctoral fellowship will be awarded. It will be implemented at the initiative of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The commission says it will be launched soon. Retired professors will be given this fellowship. Work has already started to formulate a policy in this regard. It is learned that a notification will be issued this month asking for applications from the candidates.

If you want to know about the UGC Research Support and Publication Division Director. Omar Farooq said, “We are going to launch this fellowship on the occasion of the birth centenary of the father of the nation. We have already started the activities.’

“There is talk of a meeting next week,” he said. There a committee will be formed to implement it. We will issue a circular soon after the committee talks. A book on Bangabandhu will be published on the basis of research.

If you want to know UGC research support and publication member Prof. Md. Sajjad Hossain said, “As the Corona situation has made migration abroad complicated, we are thinking about how to increase the number of scholarships within the country to ensure quality higher education.”

“International scholarships will be reduced due to the Corona situation,” he said. Even if there is a possibility, many teachers and students of Bangladesh will be deprived of this opportunity. Many universities are closed due to the global epidemic. Many foreign universities are backing away from research or scholarships because budget allocations for those that are open have been reduced.

Meanwhile, under the Science and Technology Fellowship Trust, fellowships for MS, PhD and post-PhD research in various fields of science are being given every year at home and abroad.

According to the relevant sources, from the financial year 2010-11 to the financial year 2019-20, 519 people have been given fellowships of 155 crore and 45 lakh 50 thousand taka. Since the financial year 2009-10, National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowships are being offered to students and researchers at the MPhil, PhD and PhD levels. Till the financial year 2018-19, fellowships worth Tk 82.62 crore have been given to 13,225 students and researchers. In the 2019-20 financial year, fellowships worth Tk. 19.38 crore were given to 3,200 people.

In addition, research grants are being provided to scientists and researchers for the implementation of research projects from the financial year 2009-10 with the aim of providing encouragement and assistance in research and development work on science and technology. 130 crore and 93 lakh research grant has been provided in favor of 3242 projects till 2018-19 financial year. In the fiscal year 2019-20, research grants of Tk. 16 crore were given to 561 people for 561 projects.
