Ayesha Khanam, the heroic freedom fighter and president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, is no more (Inna … Rajyun). On Saturday, January 2, she breathed her last in the morning.
Maleka Banu, general secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, said this in a message sent to the media.
According to the message, Ayesha Khanam was an active organizer of all the progressive movements including the student movement of 1962, the mass uprising of 1971 and the great liberation war. At the end of her student life, she was engaged in realizing the rights of deprived women. In her death, the women’s movement in Bangladesh lost a genuine guardian.
Body of Ayesha Khanam will be buried in her village in Netrokona, the message said.
Maleka Banu said Ayesha Khanam had been ill for a long time. She was suffering from lung cancer. On Friday, January 1, her physical condition deteriorated at night and she breathed her last on Saturday morning.
