Clove is the dried bud of the flower of the clove tree. The scientific name of the clove tree is Syzygium aromaticum. It is an evergreen plant that grows in tropical and subtropical environments. Clove is native to the Maluku Islands (or the Moluccas) in Indonesia and is commonly used as a spice.

In Asian, African, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern countries clove is used to enhance the flavor in cooking.
