The concerned departments do not know the literacy and education rate of Chandpur.Today is International Literacy Day. Literacy Day was declared on 17 November 1965 at the initiative of UNESCO and for the first time on 08 September 1966, International Literacy Day was observed in different countries of the world. The main purpose of which is to highlight the importance of literacy in individuals, communities and society.
The literacy rate in Bangladesh this year has increased by 0.8 percentage points to 74.70 percent. Last year, the literacy rate in the country was 73.90 percent.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain said this at a press conference held at the Secretariat on September 06 to mark the day.
Meanwhile, in Chandpur, various programs are to be taken to observe this day in a proper manner. However, it is surprising that the literacy rate and education rate in Chandpur district is not known in the concerned departments.
To prepare a report on literacy and education rate in the district, it is known that the officials of these 4 departments do not know the literacy rate in Chandpur district.
The reporter was the first to rush to the Education Branch of the Chandpur Deputy Commissioner’s Office for information. From there it was first called the District Non-Formal Education Bureau working on literacy. I went to this office and talked to office assistant Uttam Kumar Chakraborty.
He said they did not have the information. He said to search online or in the field of education. Or collect it in the afternoon.
On his advice, he went to the education branch of the deputy commissioner’s office and spoke to Nesar Ahmed, an official of the department said, ‘We do not have information on district literacy rate or education rate’.
He advised to go to the education office to get this information. Later, he went to the Sadar Upazila Education Office and talked to Upazila Education Officer Nazma Akhter.
He also said he did not know the education or literacy rate of the district. Even the education rate of Sadar upazila is not known to him. Later, they asked to go to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Education Branch or Bureau of Statistics to get this information.
Then I went to the Bureau of Statistics office and saw that the office was locked.
According to the latest data of Chandpur district administration, according to the 2011 census, the literacy rate of Chandpur district is 58.8%. But due to the negligence of the departments, the latest updated information was not prepared or presented.
