Work is underway to set up a central oxygen (high flow oxygen) plant at Chandpur General Hospital with a capacity of 250 bed. A seven-member team of contractor Spectra International Limited has started the work since Monday morning, July 06.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the technical team for setting up a central oxygen plant at the hospital and officials of the contractor Spectra International Limited visited the hospital. AGM Engineer Jahangir Alam and Site Engineer Saif Chowdhury visited the hospital from outside the isolation ward of the hospital and also saw the two cabins on the third floor which would be allotted for Kavid patients.
At the same time, they also saw a part of the gynecology ward on the ground floor of the east side of the hospital. Where the machinery including the cylinder of the oxygen plant will have everything and from here the oxygen will be supplied. It is known that the equipment for setting up oxygen from Dhaka reached Chandpur Government Hospital that night.
Meanwhile, patients in isolation on the 2nd floor of the main building of the hospital were shifted to the isolation ward of the former separate building on Sunday night for Central Oxygen Plant work. At the same time, all the wards of the hospital where the central oxygen plant will be set up were also evacuated.
A visit to the hospital on Monday morning revealed that some staff members of the contractor Spectra International Limited have started work on setting up a central oxygen plant in the isolation ward on the 2nd floor and the Gaini ward on the ground floor of the main building. They said they have a total of 7 members for this work.
Of these, 1 engineer, 2 assistant engineers and 4 staff. And these 4 staff will work on the oxygen plant as per the instructions of the engineers, they said. It was also found that oxygen, copper pipes, bulb keys, oxygen outlets and other equipments were kept in a room of Gaini Ward on the ground floor on the east side of the hospital.
It is known that this central oxygen plant is being set up in the government hospital with the funding of MA Wadud Memorial Trust, named after the father of local MP and Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and her brother Dr. JR Wadud Tipu. And this will no longer be the case with covid or non-covid patients who would die due to lack of necessary oxygen. This high flow oxygen can give 70 to 80 liters of oxygen per hour to each patient. However, the current management is going to give a maximum of 15 to 20 liters per hour.
The staff of Spectra International Limited, the contractor who came to set up the Central Oxygen (High Flow Oxygen) plant, said that the work would be completed within the next 4/5 days. And when the work is completed by Friday, the hospitalized patients will get this central oxygen (high flow oxygen) from Saturday. And by doing so, the general patients including the patients affected by corona in isolation will also benefit a lot.
Spectra AGM Engineer Jahangir Alam said, “If everything goes well, it will be possible to complete the whole work in the next five days, God willing.”
Since then, high flow oxygen can be provided to the patients in the isolation ward as per their requirement.
