Last 4 months 468 crore remittance receipts in Chandpur

In July, August, September, and October of the current financial year 2021-22, 5 state-owned banks in Chandpur have received foreign remittances of Tk 468 crore 32 lakh from 3 lakh 65 thousand expatriates.

The information was obtained from the regional office of 5 state-owned banks in Chandpur.

According to the information received, foreign remittances of Tk 115 crore 2 lakh in 20 branches of Sonali Bank in July-October 2021-22, foreign remittances of Tk 80 crore 29 lakh in 15 branches of Janata Bank, Tk 155 crore 33 lakh in 21 branches of Agrani Bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank received remittances of Tk 42 crore 22 lakh in 28 branches, Tk 75 crore 21 lakh in 13 branches of Rupali Bank and Tk 120 crore in Islami Bank Chandpur branch.

Rupak Kumar Rakshit, Deputy General Manager, Rupali Bank Chandpur, said, “Remittances are the key to our country’s economic development. The bank’s reserves are increasing. Foreign remittances have been playing an important role in increasing the financial well-being of the people as well as in their daily lives. The role of remittances is essential for the overall economic development of the country including Chandpur.”

He further said, “Rupali Bank works with sincerity for their overall transactions. Remittances sent by Chandpur expatriates in return for their labor are creating liquidity in more than two hundred bank branches and a few hundred shopping malls in the district.

The foreign remittances of the expatriates in the district have changed the picture in terms of their business, education, agriculture, development of infrastructure in their respective areas, infrastructural development of mosques, madrasas, and orphanages.”

According to the Chandpur Manpower and Employment Bureau, there are 12 million Bangladeshi expatriates in 162 countries around the world. Chandpur ranks 6th among other districts of the country in terms of expatriates.

According to sources in the Chandpur Manpower and Employment Office, 3 lakh 65 thousand legitimate Chandpur workers in different countries of the world, including the Middle East, send remittances from their workplaces to their relatives through banks and other agencies.

Bangladesh’s largest labor market is Saudi Arabia, followed by Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, and Libya. The people concerned think that this is a huge achievement for the riverine Chandpur.

However, most of the expatriates in Chandpur are in the Middle East and Arab countries.

The expatriates of Chandpur send these remittances every month through various funded international and authorized agencies of Bangladesh Bank. Some banks are only transacting money through a secret PIN number. Many expatriate customers also send money in person.

The country’s reserves of foreign remittances sent by expatriates are increasing. Employment creation and socio-economic conditions are improving. Each foreign remittance desk and help desk of some banks have been opened to provide services separately. The bank branch is committed to provide the highest level of service in this regard.

In Chandpur, in the 4 months from July to October of the year 2021-22, 6,973 foreigners have been given a 3-day training at Chandpur Merin Academy. Chandpur Marine Academy is giving this training to 6,973 people through 20 batches in four months.
