US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also warned that the United States will impose sanctions on countries or individuals who trade arms with Iran from now on.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has issued a similar warning following the lifting of UN sanctions on Iran.
The sanctions were lifted in 2015 on the basis of Iran’s nuclear deal with six world powers and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
In a statement in Washington on Sunday, the US Secretary of State said that Washington would impose sanctions on any person, organization or country that sells arms to Iran or buys weapons from Iran.
Pompeo also claimed that selling conventional weapons to Iran or buying weapons from Tehran violated UN Security Council resolutions.
In fact, the UN arms embargo on Iran has been automatically lifted since October 16. Although the United States recently tried to renew the embargo at a UN Security Council meeting, most members of the Security Council opposed it.
