Victory of Awami League for the post of mayor and councilor in Chandpur.The Awami League nominees and supporters have won the mayoral, councilor and reserved women’s council posts in the Chandpur municipality election.

Awami League’s nominated candidate Adv. Zillur Rahman Jewel has been elected as mayor.He got total 34,825 votes.His nearest rival BNP candidate Akhter Hossain Majhi got 3,613 votes. Mamunur Rashid Belal, candidate of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh, got 1,233 votes.

The two other candidates boycotted the vote alleging irregularities.

The total number of voters in this election of Chandpur Municipality is 1 lakh and 17 thousand 886 people. The number of male voter is 59,027 and the number of female voter is 58,859. As per the Election Commission, a total of 39,708 vote were cast at the end of the day.

Besides, 67 candidates are contesting in this election. Out of these, 15 Awami League-backed ward councilors have won in 14 ward of the municipality and 5 women councilors have won in the reserved ward.

For the first time, the voting of Chandpur Municipality was held through electronic voting machine (EVM) on Saturday, October 10 at 9:00 am. Voting was held in 52 center in 15 ward of the municipality.
