Travel Ban Not Be A Long-term Strategy: WHO

Travel ban not be a long-term strategy: WHO.The travel ban imposed worldwide to curb the spread of corona cannot long last indefinitely. It is also not suitable as a long-term strategy. In order to bring the situation under control, the countries have to curb the spread of the virus within their borders. This was stated by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday.

Many more countries have imposed travel bans in recent days as the second phase of the transition continues to accelerate. However, the UN body has advised countries to adopt a strategy to prevent the spread of the virus by following health rules without imposing an indefinite travel ban.

Speaking at a virtual press conference in Geneva, Tedros adhanom ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, said the world could find a way to defeat the Covid-19 epidemic by following strict hygiene rules, from wearing masks to avoiding public gatherings. But an indefinite travel ban is not the answer.

The WHO Director-General said, ‘Infection is down where these hygiene rules are being followed, upwards where they are not being followed. It has a long way to go, ”he said, praising countries like Canada, China, Germany and South Korea for adhering to health regulations.

“The travel bans were not sustainable,” said Mike Ryan, head of the agency’s emergency services.

“It is not possible for any country to keep its borders closed for an unknown period of time. The economy needs to be revived. People have to go back to work. And international trade needs to be revived.”

However, the company also expressed concern. “The situation is getting worse,” said Director General Tedros.

The total number of infections worldwide has almost doubled in the last six weeks. He described the Covid-19 as “the most serious” of the World Health Organization’s public health emergencies so far.He expressed concern that the coronavirus was out of control in most parts of the world and that the situation was deteriorating.
