Along with the intense winter and dense fog,the flow of cold wave has stagnated the country.Due to heavy fog, traffic is disrupted.The daily activities of the people are being interrupted due to winter in various areas including the northwest.More and more people are suffering. Increased winter morbidity.
According to data from the Department of Health Disease Control Branch, so far 49 people have died of winter disease. Of these,16 are in ARI,4 in diarrhea and 29 in other diseases. Twenty-two died in Chittagong Division.In Rangpur division 13 people died and 5 died in Barisal.
Thousands of people are rushing to the hospital every day to get medical attention due to cold diseases.
Doctors say children are more prone to asthma, pneumonia, colds, coughs, fever, tonsillitis. The elderly are at risk. Dhaka Medical College Hospital and government hospitals in the capital have increased patient pressure. The beds are not empty at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mitford Hospital, Children’s Hospital. There is no place in the wards.
No patient is being returned from Dhaka Medical College Hospital under the guidance of the hospital director. Patients are being treated on the floor of the hospital corridor, porch and on the stairs. Children and the elderly are coming to the hospital due to winter sickness.The hospital authorities carry everything except two tests and medicines.
According to data from the Department of Health’s Disease Control Branch, 8,900 people have been admitted to different hospitals from December 16 (Monday) to December 22 (Sunday) at 8 am. During this time, 5,514 people were admitted to various respiratory diseases. Not only that, after the onset of winter, diarrhea of 1,00,912 people has been admitted from November 1 (Friday) to December 22 (Sunday). 39,788 people have come to the hospital after suffering from respiratory tract infections.
Dr Rajesh Majumder, a resident physician at the Department of Pediatrics of Dhaka Medical College Hospital says, “With the change of seasons some new diseases are spreading. Most of these diseases occur in winter. With the increase of winter, people are suffering from various diseases including colds, coughs, fever, sore throat, arthritis pain, shortness of breath, pneumonia and bronchitis, tonsil pain and inflammation. Children under the age of 6 months to less than 5 years old are especially vulnerable to winter illness. The number of common cold patients is high”.
Weather forecasts say temperatures will rise slightly by Tuesday, December 24. However, the intensity of winter will begin to decrease. It may rain as well. The agency says light to heavy rain could occur Wednesday night, December 25.
Meteorologist Arif Hossain said, “The difference between the highest and lowest temperatures is still low, because the cold feeling is high throughout the country”.
