Mother-Hilsa catching banned for 22 days

Minister of State for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru said Bangladesh is one of the best in the world in the horticulture. About 80 % of the total hilsa produced in the world is derived from the rivers,estuaries and seas of this country.

He said, “In the last ten years, the average growth of hilsa production has been about 80 percent. About 2.50 million people are directly involved in the collection of hilsa and 2.50 million people are directly or indirectly involved in the hilsa transport, sale, manufacture of nets and boats, ice production, processing, exporting, etc.

The minister said this at a press conference on the occasion of the banning of mother-hilsa for 22 days from October 1 to Oct 30.

Khasru said that only about 12 percent of the total fish produced in Bangladesh comes from the hilsa, which is the highest as a single species. Its contribution to GDP is 1 percent.

He described various steps for the development of hilsa, including automation in fish production, and said that recently the Directorate of Patent, Design and Trade Marks has provided a geographical indicator register of the national fish hilsa.

He said Bangladesh is known in the world as more than two-thirds of the world’s hilarious producers. Therefore, in order to increase and accelerate the production of the hilsa, this year, in the main breeding season of the hilsa, ie from Oct 9 to Oct 30, a total of 22 days in the country have been issued a notification prohibiting hilsa collection, transport, marketing, marketing and storage, and the ‘hilsa preservation.

Hailing, transporting, playing Baja nationwide, with an area of ​​7,000 sq km, covered by the coastal hilsa breeding area Jatakarana, purchase, sale, exchange reserves and has been banned.
